PukaDog

We promised our friend, Fote, we would have lunch at PukaDog in Waikiki.

Puka means hole in Hawaiian, so what they do here is poke a hole lengthwise through the roll instead of slicing it in half. Then they put in some secret sauce, tropical fruit relish, tropical fruit mustard and cap it off with a polish sausage.

I went with garlic-lemon secret sauce, pineapple relish and guava mustard. It's one of the best hot dogs I've ever had. Jen got the same secret sauce, mango relish and lilikoi mustard. Yum!

Breakfast on the beach

We stopped at the Kalapowai Market for breakfast sandwiches and walked to the beach to eat them. I waited half an hour before walking in the surf. In this picture I believe the small mountain in the background is the Marine Corp base.

That mountain is everywhere.

On our way to the Valley of the Temples we made a pitstop at the State Hospital where Jen used to work. The building in the picture is actually Windward Community College. The State Hospital is behind it in front of the mountains.

There's a scene in Lost where Hurley was in an institution after he was rescued. I took the picture from where he was talking to Charlie's ghost.

Hawaii or bust!

We flew from Philly to Houston, waited 3 hours, and flew on to Honolulu. This picture was probably somewhere over New Mexico.

All told, we were in the air for about 12 hours. And the sun was up the whole time! We were awake for almost 23 hours with the time changes. March 26, 2011, the longest day of my life.
